Gah.

I bitched earlier about the shooting of Sal Culosi. The man was an optometrist who moonlighted as a bookie. Though one presumes they could have served the man's warrant at, say, his optometry office, when the Fairfax County police decided to serve his arrest warrant they sent in a SWAT team in the middle of the night. One of the guys on the SWAT team shot him and killed him by accident.

The cop is not facing charges and his name isn't even going to be released to the press.

So for anyone who believed that we should wait for a full report on the IHOP shootings and then surely justice will be done if, as I surmised, the cop there intentionally placed himself in danger then shot a teenager getting out of that danger, I'd say there's not much chance of that.

We will see what happens during the civil suit. You know there's going to be one.

Maybe if Fairfax County loses a big enough lawsuit, they will go back to serving warrants the less fun way.

Lawsuits really are the best way of inducing bureaucracies to change. That's something that often gets glossed over when people start whining about large jury awards and tort reform.
