Three things that depress CC

1. When a divorcing woman who has been claiming that she was physically abused by her husband is willing to share custody for enough money. I had been giving Heather Mills McCartney the benefit of the doubt and not assuming she was the immoral gold-digging floozy that one keeps hearing she is. But with that divorce settlement, I think the point becomes inarguable.

Either:

A. She wasn't really abused and has been telling lies and dragging Paul McCartney's reputation through the mud to get more money out of him.

-or-

B. She was telling the truth about the abuse and she's willing to let a physically abusive man who once stabbed her with a broken wine bottle share custody of her kid as long as she gets $56 million and a mansion.

I'm betting that the truth is A, but either way, I don't like her. Were a non-fabulously wealthy woman put into a situation where she had to choose between sole custody and being able to afford to eat, my sympathies would be with her. But presumably, Mills could have said "I don't want your money, I just want to protect my kid" and just settled for being a woman without a mansion.

2.
A bunch of Buddhist monks live in a temple infested with stinging red ants
that they can't kill because they don't believe in killing.

The poor monks!

3. Insomnia.

Ah well, I'll go give sleeping another shot.

There's always choice C: She was abused, but her lawyers told her that there was no chance she would be able to win sole custody given the available evidence. So she took what she could get.

It's possible, I guess, but her claims are pretty extreme.

I mean, if he'd stabbed her, wouldn't there be a hospital report, a scar or both?

Not that a hospital report and scar would be enough evidence to get full custody. Many family courts appear to be VERY reluctant to cut a child off from either parent, even if there is clear evidence of abuse.. and especially with her not alleging that the KID was abused.

This does sound like "take what you can get", possibly with a side of brinkmanship by attempting to get sole custody in the first place. I still think it's kinda skeezy, but for a different reason.

Well, first off this divorce was in England, and I don't know that they are as forward-thinking as we are about encouraging parents sharing custody rather than encouraging mothers to get full custody.

Recent photographs of Mills McCartney in revealing dresses don't show any scars on the upper parts of her arm, where she said she was stabbed.

And a hospital admitting the wife of a Beatle and keeping her stab wound completely quiet seems extremely unlikely.

That said, I'm speculating at this point and you may be right.

It may be that though she felt she was abused, that she had full confidence that the child would not be abused. It happens. But I think your first take is the most likely.

I'd say Ms. Mills doesn't have a leg to stand on. *rim shot*g
