I would stop posting about ACORN if the story would stop developing

Latest news on ACORN

Entire content of link posted below"

"Police say a worker with the activist group ACORN who was caught on video giving advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute had reported the incident to authorities.
National City police said Monday that Juan Carlos Vera contacted his cousin, a police detective, to get advice on what to with information on possible human smuggling.

Vera was secretly filmed on Aug. 18 as part of a young couple’s high-profile expose.

Police say he contacted law enforcement two days later. The detective consulted another police official who served on a federal human smuggling task force, who said he needed more details.

The ACORN employee responded several days later and explained that the information he received was not true and he had been duped.

Vera was fired on Thursday."

Ok, my bad, at least one of the ACORN offices did take the videographers seriously and on the video is just playing along with them to get as much information as possible out of them. This explains why the tax information Vera gave to O'Keefe and Giles was fake and likely to get them caught by the IRS.

Ironically, several posters here and on other blogs have said that the ACORN guys should have all thrown the videographers out of their offices and called the cops like the Philly office did. That would have covered ACORN's ass.

What this guy did would actually have stopped a potential human smuggling operation. If you think about it, playing along with them to get information was a very courageous thing to do that had they been for real could have put him in very real danger. He did it anyway, though.

But don't worry, guys, the ass-covering approach you guys favored won out. The Philly ACORN folks who called the cops still have their jobs. I'm sure staff at the seven other offices who just threw them out do too. The guy who actually tried to stop the human smugglers has been fired because of the outraged cries of people like you.

Congratulations?

...at least you found someone who did the right thing.

Now, why didn't ACORN's board do the right thing when they found Dale Radke, the brother of ACORN's founder Wade Radke, stealing a million bucks from ACORN.

This outfit needs a very good audit by GAO, with the next stop being
ACORN's "sister" outfit SEIU 880.

If you're blaming someone for what their brother has done you are WAY posting on the wrong blog.

No, the ACORN board gave Radke's brother a pass on Embezzlement of $1 Million from ACORN.

As a footnote, note the ACORN staff made a point of mentioning ACORN's connections with California's Politicians.

In Illinois, where ACORN and SEIU share offices, those connections include the Cook County Sheriff, and the Cook County and Illinois State's Attorneys, responsible for regulating not for profits like ACORN.

Here are the donations,

* Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan -- $223, 460.00
* Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart -- $107, 138.00
* former Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine -- $1250.00
* Current Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez -- $31, 433.00

So, when you do go to ACORN proposing a crime, at least in Illinois, you're are going to people with access, and people who let you know they have access, to the very police you expect to deal with things like Human Trafficking.

Rob Blagojevich, who was seeking a $300k plus job at an SEIU think tank, is found of calling Springfield, our Capital, a whore house. He says it repeatedly on radio talk shows here.

He may be quit literal about it.

As a footnote, you're back to taking the woman who pretended to be a husband murdering former hooker at face value.

CC, so far as Bill is concerned, the woman deserves to be arrested even if her husbands are all still alive. That will teach her to make jokes and be sarcastic in times like these!

These days nothing stirs Bill Baar's loins quite so much as a good old fashion which hunt complete with guilt by association, red herrings, hysterical politicians, the whiff of sanctimony and--best yet--spiced up with a little ludicrous sex.

If anyone talks to me of having murdered someone. I'll act on that. Why wouldn't you? Who are you to judge whether that's factual or not.

ACORN receives federal funds, lots of them, and covered up the embezzelment of nearly a million dollars that nearly left ACORN bankrupt. They covered it up because the ACORN guy who did it was the brother of ACORN's founder.

If that isn't a demon to hunt, I wouldn't be worth my auditor's gumshoes.

I'll try and an ACORN post over the weekend. The ACORN / SEIU / Illinois Democrats / Obama connections are many and complex. Expect much more to come of this with Blagojevich's trial come next June.

Footnote: The NYT well over a year ago with the ACORN Embezzlement story. This is the story ABC's Ann Compton just discovered last week, and the story behind the GOP's amendment to prohibit stimulus funds going to ACORN. Democrats voted down that amendment and it was the O'Keefe / Giles sex angle that flipped the Democrats to defund... so if there are folks driven by the sex angle with this story, it's Democrats.

So I take it you would have gone straight to the police with it rather than wait to release the tape until a month and a half later when it would give you a political advantage?

And again, my point wasn't that the woman was inherently not credible, my point was that she was proved later to have been screwing with them, so her statements about the California politicians were likely a part of that.

I would have. And I have.

O'Keefe and Giles certainly have a liability there.

This is the same criticism I had of Rahn Emmanual on the Foley cause where he had info on Cong. Foley, and kept it to himself until opportune time. And then Hastert and Shimkus who found out and told Foley to knock it off when they should have gone to House Ethics committee.

I've seen this happen way to often where people in responsibility here rumors and discount them as not creditable, and then sure enough, where there is smoke there is fire (not always but enough) and the failure becomes why didn't you act.

People go passivie. Enured to violent talk. You hear stuff you need to evaluate your responsiblity to act. Even if it's just correcting someone. Typically you have a responsiblity and these ACORN folks, as did O'Keefe and Giles, had a large obligation in this story.

And here's the endgame: after dragging ACORN through the muck, Republicans will try to repeal an anti-redlining law because ZOMG ACORN IS *ALSO* ANTI-REDLINING.
