Google's Quote of the Day

is from CC's hero Robertson Davies:

Happiness is always a by-product. It is probably a matter of temperament, and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life, and if you are not happy you had better stop worrying about it and see what treasures you can pluck from your own brand of unhappiness.

Great quote, CC. You turned me on to RD and I'm so grateful!

Since I have bipolar, my realization of happiness is different from the average person's, but I see the point the author was trying to make.

I think we all demand satisfaction from life---not greedily, not like it's something owed to us based on being born--but something we need like proper nutrition or companionship. I've demanded many things that seem to come so easily to other people---like health, for one, and there are times in the depths of despair where seeing the silver lining is an exercise in futility.
