Since I have bipolar, my realization of happiness is different from the average person's, but I see the point the author was trying to make.
I think we all demand satisfaction from life---not greedily, not like it's something owed to us based on being born--but something we need like proper nutrition or companionship. I've demanded many things that seem to come so easily to other people---like health, for one, and there are times in the depths of despair where seeing the silver lining is an exercise in futility.
