I think it's a clever idea (to challenge death) gone horribly lame. A tribute to the original DM by having him be a PC? If he is supposed to be the DM he wouldn't describe it as adding it to "my" party. Definitely some potential here for a good cartoon, but the cartoonist doesn't appear to truly grok the subject matter.
