Fixing UUism: Eliminate UU Hypocrisy

by Robin Edgar

How about if U*Us made a reasonable effort to actually practice what they preach rather than doing the exact opposite and pretending that they have done no wrong whatsoever. . . That would resolve most of the various injustices, abuses and outrageous hypocrisy that I have either directly experienced or have witnessed within UUism. I could provide a fairly long list of specific injustices, abuses and hypocrisy perpetrated and perpetuated by U*Us but in view of U*U ADD I will keep this post as short and bitter as it is right now. More later. . .

Yeah but how do we do it Robin? Hypocrisy exists everywhere, by no means is UUism exempt.

I personaly do not like a lot of UUs self rightous attitude (one which I know I am guilty of occasionally) although I really do not know how to fix it.

CC said "eliminate" UU hypocrisy. That would be the ideal but evidently it is a somewhat unrealistic goal. I say U*Us can most certainly start to significantly reduce U*U hypocrisy by formally acknowledging that it exists and by responsibly addressing any hypocrisy and other internal U*U injustices and abuses that are brought to their attention by myself and/or other UU prophets rather than obstinately ignoring them, pathologically denying them, and even going to extreme lengths to censor and suppress and even criminalize. . . my own and other UU prophets' legitimate criticism and dissent.

I am still waiting for the slightest official acknowledgement from the UUA, the CUC (aka CU*UC) ;-), and Unitarian Church of Montreal of the very obvious injustices, abuses and outrageous hypocrisy that I have been subjected to by Montreal Unitarian U*Us and top level UUA and CUC officials, including but by no means limited to former UUA President Rev. John Buehrens and former MFC director Rev. Diane Miller. . . And I have just about had it with current UUA President Rev. William G. Sinkford's sincere ignorance and effectively complicit silence in response to what he himself once described as my "obviously deep concerns" about UU injustices, abuses and hypocrisy. If UUA President Bill Sinkford does not wake up and smell the rancid U*U coffee very soon, and stand up and strongly speak out against the various U*U injustices, abuses and outrageous hypocrisy that I brought to his attention very soon after his election as President of the UUA, he will live to regret his far from golden complicit silence. . .

I am still waiting for a genuinely sincere and comprehensive U*U wea culpa as it were. . . and I expect UUA President William Sinkford to present the UUA's wea culpa and officail apologies to me and other victims of U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy in the very near future. Indeed I expect UUA President Bill Sinkford to practice what he preaches and make a sincere and genuine effort to begin again in love with me and other ostrichized Unitarian Universalists by February 14th, 2006 which just happens to mark the 10th anniversary of my original letter of grievance about Rev. Ray Drennan's hostile and abusive attack on me and my bona fide God believing Unitarian religious beliefs and practices.

Jamie,

How about if you and other Ohio UUs invite Neil Young to Ohio to help observe the first World day of Conscience on Wednesday March 29th, 2006. It can't hurt to ask. . .

I have already informally invited Neil Young and other prophetic musicians to observe World Day of Consience by posting to an appropriate email list and will extend more formal invitations down the road a bit. . .

Why not eliminate human hypocricy? It would be just as easy.

Kim it is CC who used the word "eliminate" not me. The fact of the matter however is that hypocrisy is a serious problem within UUism that needs to be addressed in an effort to significantly reduce "image tarnishing" UU hypocrisy. People can smell hypocrisy a mile away and they are not going to attend UU "churches" where hypocrisy is rampant. The first steps in reducing hypocrisy in all its forms is to identify it, then to expose it, denounce it, responsibly acknowledge it and then take responsible corrective action to significantly reduce it or, if at all possible. . . actually "eliminate" it as CC idealistically but somewhat unrealistically suggested.

Quite regrettably most of the UUs that I know have a severe aversion to acknowledging their own and/or other UUs' flagrantly obvious hypocrisy and then undertaking responsible measures to reduce it or at least temporarily "eliminate" it. Some UUs even seem to actually take a kind of pathological pride in their own and other UUs' obvious hypocrisy. Many of the UUs that I know are pathologically shameless in their shamelessness as witnessed by stunningly hypocritical, and utterly shameless, Montreal Unitarian U*Us who Sunday after Sunday for seven long years have marched past my picket signs that expose and denounce very real, and very well documented, U*U injustices, abuses and hypocrisy without doing anything at all to respond in the slightest responsibility to my perfectly legitimate public protest. Au contraie these shamelessly hypocritical Montreal U*Us have quite evidently gone to extreme lengths to try to deny the legitimacy of my grievances and public protest, to punish me for airing my grievances in letters and subsequent public protest, and to censor and suppress my legitimate dissent and public protest in ways that only further expose their utterly shameless outrageous hypocrisy to the Montreal public, to say nothing of the UU World, and even the real world. . .

Oh, and speaking of utterly shameless UU hypocrisy. . . I do believe that UUA President William G. Sinkford aka Bill Sinkford has just a little bit of explaining to do. . .

I'll work on it. But eliminate it? Human hypocrisy will die when the species goes extinct.
