Fixing UUism: Change the Name

Jamie Goodwin
of Trivium

Begin an Incremental Process to change the name of Unitarian Universalism to something easier on the mind and tongue and which does some of our "elevator speech" for us. Ideas could be gathered from individuals and congregations around the country. The final choice would be ratified by a 66.7% percent majority of member congregations. (I originally had 66.6% but figured the evangelicals would jump on that one)

Well it sure ain't the Church of the Brave as far as I can see. . . ;-) BTW In order to genuinely be the Church of the Free UUism will have to learn to actually practice what it so fraudulentyl preaches about religious freedom and civil liberties etc. etc.

Also you should check the link for the 'Eliminate UU hypocrisy' thread because it seems to be going nowhere. Par for the course for UUism as I know it. . . I would be happy with some sincere formal official UUA acknowledgements of and apologies for UU hypocrisy and various UU internal injustices and abuses for starters. . .

Robin,

I have less control over the way blogger functions than you seem to imagine. Sometimes on blogger, links don't work.

I looked at the link you complained about, there was nothing wrong with the HTML and when I tried the link, it worked fine.

I'm sorry that in having a nonworking link, I failed to meet your high standards for other people's conduct.

Does anyone have The Free Church?

I like a gazillion names better than ours. I would vote for the Church of Smegma before I would vote for lots and lots of letters and syllables that you find near the very end of any list of religions.

And, that said, I would vote for The Zoroastrianism Revived Church before I would vote for our current name.

I sometimes wonder if our name is meant to be a test of UU purity. If you can bear it and smile, you are worthy.

Okay, I don't hate it that much. But it is a drag on our faith.

And then of course there is that brand spanking new U*U *corporate identity* as dreamed up by Canadian U*U brainiac CUC Executive Director Mary Bennett. . . Doh!

So much for Canadian Unitarian Counsel as it were. . .

Somebody had better get around to doing something about *correcting* that rather less than stellar U*U proposal unless U*Us world-wide want to *asterisk* becoming even more of a joke than they already are.

U asterisk U Mary Bennett! ;-)

Hi CC,

My standards for other people's conduct aren't really all that high. I let a lot of things go but I have to draw the line somewhere and do draw the line when the vast majority of reasonable people would agree that it needs to be drawn. . .

BTW My standards for the conduct of U*Us is guided by the purported principles and purposes of UUism and various other stated UU ideals and policies etc. I expect UUs to make a reasonable effort to actually practice what they quite evidently so insincerely, so hypocritically and, at least in some cases so outright fraudulently preach. . .

My heads up about the non-functioning link was just a friendly warning up about the dysfunctional link but I could not resist making a crack about dysfunctional UUism at the same time.

maybe the problems with UU are greatly shown in this thread?
