I guess I just wasn't his type...

I once had a job interview with an affable man who didn't end up hiring me. He'd given me a Myers-Briggs and I had come up my usual type.

"Hmmm..." He said, "An INTP. My ex-wife was an INTP."

"Mmm..." I said, not knowing what else to say.

He leaned across the desk, staring intensely into my eyes. "Do most people in the world not exist for you?"

"No," I said. "Well, I mean, here are some people I really connect with and some I don't, but even the people I don't connect with still exist."

"They just FEEL like they don't exist."

As I said, I didn't get the job, which wasn't a huge surprise. But I've never forgotten that guy or that conversation.

And I try to be better about letting even the people I don't naturally feel a connection to know they exist.

CC
interested to hear the myers-briggs type of any Chalicesseur willing to share.

ENFJ chiming in here. But there are days when I question at least the E.

I can't remember which magazine wrote an expose about that Myers-Briggs....I'm so useless with references. I take it a lot less seriously than I used to (ENFJ).

IN(T/F)J.

I scored exactly 50/50 on the thinking/feeling scale. The admins didn't quite know what to do with it. "Well, you're going to be a minister, and ministers are usually F, so we'll just call you F."

This just highlighted for me the potential for abuse with these tests. "You don't fit the mold, so we'll just force you in there."

They ended up writing a long explanatory paragraph regarding the results.

Fascinating... I had no idea what my type was, so I just took an online test, which said ENFJ. What are the odds that the first three posters, who vary widely in age and background, would all be the same type?

(I/E)NTJ here... I score pretty well equally on the I/E though I think I am becoming more introverted as time goes by.

Except on the interweb. Heh.

xNFx

(where x means I score almost precisely on the line after regular tests.)

MBTI is really fun but lacks scientific foundation. I really question the ethics of using MBTI in any employment setting. Sure, it's a useful tool for discussion, but that's where it stops.

I'm INTJ, but very close to center on the T/F scale.

INTJ here. A whopping majority of UU's are "N", which is opposite of the general population, and a majority are "I's", which is also a variation on "normal." Also, in the general population, 60% of men are "T's and 60% of women are "F's", and that percentage is reversed in UU's. These differences are an important part of our identity.

Myers Briggs may not have a scientific basis (what would that be? Genetic?) but it has been well validated in social science.

I've made a 25 year slide... from ENTP to ENxP to ENFP, apparently. The last test has me pretty well off the x and into F.

Interesting, that.

xN(T/F)P

I score very centrally on the I/E axis, but my T/F flip/flops moderately T or F depending on my mood and what I've been reading/doing lately.

I used to be *strongly* IN(T/F) but the 'I' has mellowed out over the years.

Don't know that I count as a Chalicesseur, but I test as an ENFP.

I've tested ENTJ and ENFP, both times with very high "I" rating to balance my "E." Real consistent.

That dude was totally inappropriate and discriminatory. What a creep.

I know a UU minister who judges everyone according to their MB types and is very obsessive about it. She's so into categorizing everybody that she doesn't see them as just interesting multi-layered humans. She turned me off to the personality tests.

Hmmm... I'm guessing ENFP for you, PB.

who isn't THAT into this stuff, but perversely enjoys typing people.

I was ENTJ the first bunch of times, more recently my I/E is a pretty close call.

i don't remember exactly what I was but I was close to even on ALL FOUR of them! Weird.
