This just in, McCain will debate.

So next week is game on, Sarah Palin.

I figured he'd show--the potential downside of not appearing, and letting Obama show up and look and sound presidential and concerned about the economy and foreign affairs by himself... particularly with press reports that seem to suggest that McCain sort of stirred the almost resolved bailout solution up and didn't then do much of anything to help resolve it... would look bad.

More 'objectively,' I think the media would have reamed him for not showing (with a fair degree of cause)--and that the snub to Mississippi might have created other problems, too.

I was only wondering if he'd make some theatrical appearance, as if--at the last minute--he'd pried himself away to come and participate.

Drat. This spoils my fantasy of Obama debating Bob Barr one on one, and humiliating him.

Couldn't Palin announce early next week that she was suspending her campaign in order to fly to Pakistan to help resolve the foreign policy crisis that has emerged there, with U.S. and Pakistani forces trading fire? She seemed to get along well with the new president of Pakistan. And she wouldn't even have to cancel on Letterman.

The format of the Vice Presidential debate has been modified extensively, providing Biden less opportunity to get in a few well-placed one liners, but it will be interesting to see if he can land a few blows despite that fact.

Palin will have to not show in order to hurry back and keep Putin's head from invading Alaskan airspace.

Seriously, what are they going to do when someone asks her a question and she trolls for a clue ("In what sense...?). I'm going to be waiting for "I'd like a talking point for $50, please...".

Bush League--only she doesn't mangle the language, which has always offered a certain degree of cover for the Bushes, as people project what 41 and 43 "really" meant when they said whatever they, um... said.

When in his entire life has Joe Biden ever been able to hold himself to only one line?

It's pretty pathetic that Sarah Palin had to suspend her campaign because McCain suspended his ... that is NO REASON at all. What the heck? If you can't even be trusted to campaign by yourself, how can we trust her to run the country by herself?
