Looks like it could be an ideal tanning salon for U*Us (aka card-carrying members of the "Church of the Far Left") who want to remain 97% white while emanating a Red or Pinko aura about them. ;-)
I don't suppose you have bothered to do the "free and responsible search" thing and Google - Pinko Unitarians - or Communist Unitarians - or Marxist Unitarians for that matter. . . have you CC? ;-) Are you unaware of the fact that, as recently as a year ago, The Oregonian newspaper described U*Uism as "the church of the far left" in an article about last year's UUA GA?
My point was that the term "pinko" is pretty out of fashion in America and that one only really hears it used ironically these days.
Yes, you've mentioned a bunch of times that a newspaper called us the "church of the far left." Shrug. Every religion has problems, that reputation, and the degree to which it is accurate, is certainly one of ours.
I don't particularly consider googling "UU marxist" to be part of my search for truth and meaning. That search is a spiritual one, and looking into what other people think about my church isn't that relevant to my dealings with God.
Well if you had Googled - Pinko Unitarians - you would have discovered that people really still say "Pinko" in the U.S.A. In fact, as recently as July 2006, a U*U blogger referred to his own U*U congregation as, "that pinko, Unitarian church." About the same time another person said, "I'm kind of a pinko Unitarian Universalist type. . ." A Google search on - Marxist Unitarians - gets quite interesting. The top level result suggests that the Unitarian Peace Memorial church in East Melbourne, Australia, was steeplejacked by Marxist-Leninists in 1976.
Well CC "two years ago" is a lot more recent than 1987 (perhaps you should have said 1984. . .) and they are *American* U*Us. Being rather left leaning myself, albeit not to the point of being a Marxist or Stalinist or something, I use the term "pinko" to refer to myself from time to time. I am confident that those two examples were from U*Us who had no qualms about referring to themselves as "pinkos" and even did so with a little pride. You and other U*Us really should Google Marxist Unitarians and read this. After doing so you might want to read this and weep*. It seems to me that The Oregonian had plenty of good reason to waggishly refer to Unitarian*Universalism as "the Church of the Far Left" maybe more so than some U*Us would care to enter into a free and responsible search for the truth and meaning of. . .
Right, but "Pinko" is a term that even in the 1980s was mostly used by arch conservatives. The liberals who use it these days are generally using it ironically when they refer to themselves that way. (Much the way some powerful women refer to themselves as "bitches" knowing that it is a term frequently used by men who are threatened by strong women.)
Note how you say here that you use it to refer to yourself even though you're not a marxist. So yeah, you're also using it ironically.
I don't really understand why you keep bringing up the point about the church of the far left. I've conceded that a church for only liberals is our reputation and to some degree it is deserved. Every church has flaws, that's a major one of ours. I've argued this point pretty often.
So you keep telling me that some newspaper called us that why?

Wow, do people really still say "Pinko" in Canada? I don't think I've heard that term since like 1987.
"Red," either.

Wow. Two examples, both from like two years ago and neither one sounding like it was meant literally.

If at first you don't succeed. . .

Marxists to the left of me,
Nazis to the right,
Here I am.
Stuck in the middle with U*Us ;-)
*possibly from laughter
