When I liveblogged the Presidential debates, I kept making fun of John McCain's weird hatred of Spain, finally attributing his feelings to Penelope Cruz's acting?
McCain also wanted to leave the door open for the CIA to continue using tactics that were disapproved for the military. And of course, one can disagree about what is torture without wanting American officials to be put on trial. I'm sure lots of people disagreed with Kissinger without wanting him to get haled into court.
Almost makes me feel the wrong side won the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American and Spanish-American Wars. Plenty of 19th-century Unitarians thought so.
Then again, maybe Spain is still trying to atone for Franco.

McCain was at odds with Bush on just what was "torture". Just google McCain and Torture and you'll find the links.

We'll know whether McCain wants to protect the Bush Admin by whether he calls out his fellow Republican senators for holding Koh's and Johnston's nominations hostage until Obama promises not to release any more Bush torture documents.

We'll see if it holds water.
